of ammo. as the nation looks as a possible ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, there's also such a ban on assault weapons here in california. still the owner of the gun show says the turnout is being fueled by a fear that the nation's gun laws will change in other ways in light of the strategy in newtown, connecticut. several attendees told us they agreed. >> things are just flying off the shelves. people are so concerned that they're not going to be able to buy arms and ammunition to defend themselves or to go hunting with or anything in the future. >> reporter: we did talk to some gun owners here today who actually support some of the national proposals to curb gun violence including a requirement for background checks on everybody who purchases a gun. that requirement already exists here in california. but many states what's called a gun show loophole meaning if you buy a gun at a gun show, you don't have to have a background check. as for protesters, we did not see any while we were here

today. this gun show ended at 5:00, but it does continue tomorrow here at the cow palace. monty francis, nbc bay area news. oakland police are under pressure to track down four killers after four people were killed in the span of a few hours yesterday afternoon. the shootings reached different neighborhoods of that city from west oakland to deep east oakland and all took place within a timespan of about six hours. this is the scene from the last deadly shooting which happened around 8:15 last night, not far from bishop o'dowd high school. the man was pronounced dead at the scene. police say they believe all four homicides are gang related, and they have not made any arrests in any of those cases. san jose police have made another arrest in the beating death of a 14-year-old boy last year. 31-year-old joe was arrested thursday on murder charges. investigators say he was hiding out in an apartment complex there. police say he was the last suspect wanted in the death of reyes who was attacked by several people in san jose's

roosevelt park last april. and in san francisco, hundreds of people came together to remember the people who were killed in that city in 2012. 68 people were killed in san francisco last year. and today 68 people held crosses in their honor. for some, that wait represented much more than one life. >> for me, that's very powerful. i spent 23 1/2 years incarcerated because i took a person's life. and to hold this cross in honor of someone whose life was taken for me is very powerful. >> the event started with a walk that included stops at several churches. it ended with a memorial service at noon at mission dolores church. have you noticed the winter blast that's hit the bay area? here's a live look at san francisco where the temperatures continue to fall. it's pretty, though, isn't it?

if you thought it was cold this morning, it is about to get even colder tonight. our meteorologist is tracking things from our weather center. rob, what do you have for us? >> we're watching a frost advisory for san francisco to oakland and for the inner bay which means temperatures will be in the low to mid-30s by tomorrow morning but even colder san jose upper 20s to low 30s, at least another five degrees colder than this morning. tri-valley, east bay valleys into the north bay, freeze warnings where you expect upper 20s for the morning and mid-20s possible in sew lawn dough nt where the really cold air will set up tonight. at this hour, no rain or snow but look what happens here by 11:00 and midnight tonight. already approaching freezing in parts of the bay area. we'll let you know that tomorrow morning, by the way, is not the coldest morning we're seeing coming up in our seven-day forecast. we'll show you what you can expect for the rest of your sunday daytime plans in just a few minutes. diane? >> thank you, rob.

we now know the identity of the man whose body was found in a petaluma recycling center. employees at the novato disposal service made the startling discovery while sifting through trash yesterday afternoon. investigators say 30-year-old louis gomez diaz was a known transient in the area. while they don't believe he was killed, the death is classified as suspicious and remains under investigation. friends and family of three people who were killed in a fire in san jose brought out their own buckets and hoses today. they held a car wash to raise funds for the maldonados and their daughter. the three were killed when fire swept through their second floor apartment. those who were close to the victims hope to raise enough for the funeral costs and help the rest of the family start over. >> as much as we can, just enough to hopefully pay for the funerals and everything. other sorts of accessories and stuff because like i said, they lost everything in their house,

everything. all valuables, everything. >> they plan to hold another car wash tomorrow from 9:30 to 4:00 p.m. at agave restaurant in san jose. thousands of people are sick with the flu, and numbers experts say we wouldn't see until much later in the winter. doctors say this strain appears to be a particularly nasty one, so they're advising everyone to get flu shots if you haven't already, but there might be a problem with that. nbc bay area's kimberly terry is in san jose to show us why. kimberly? >> reporter: diane, despite what this sign says, it could be a very long time until you're actually able to get a flu shot. you might have to wait since many pharmacies are telling us they are in low supply or completely out until at least next week. those shortages are not unusual. the early arrival and this year's especially nasty train means it could get worse before it gets better. a typical flu season lasts about

three months meaning this isn't even the halfway mark. >> i suspect in most parts of the country we'll continue to see influenza activity for several more weeks. >> reporter: spokespeople from kaiser and some major pharmacies serving the bay area say there has been a recent spike in demand for the flu shot which has caused shortages at some locations. they also tell us they are moving supplies from their warehouses and ordering more vaccine. medical experts say there's still time to get the flu shot but keep in mind it does not provide protection for about two weeks. it might also be a good idea to call ahead to see if your clinic or your doctor has a vaccine available and to get yourself on a wait list if it does not. hive in san jose tonight, kimberly terry, nbc bay area news. >> thank you, kimberly. and coming up next at 6:00, remembering a north bay teenager. >> those piercing blue eyes, that radiant smile. she was 110 miles an hour, but she loved 110 miles an hour.

hundreds of people gathered in petaluma today to remember 19-year-old alyssa burns. she died over new year's in

tahoe. and many at that memorial made a pledge in her honor as well. she was found dead after she tried to walk three miles to her hotel in freezing weather after a party. friends pledged that as part of alyssa's memory, they would use the buddy system and stick together whether they're in petaluma or anywhere else. her dad is grateful at least that lesson is being learned. >> we've had way too much tragedy here already. let's get the kids out and learn something and be positive. and instead of having memorials like this for one of our children that we lose, let's have things like this and talk about it before it happens and get that information out so that, you know, parents need to talk to their kids, kids need to talk to each other, parents, friends, whatever. >> family and friends wore pink, alyssa's favorite color, to the memorial. they're also planning a benefit concert in february. with proceeds going to the polly klaas foundation. the airport was closed after a pilot made a wheels-up runway. the small plane skidded when it

landed. the 56-year-old said he didn't even realize his landing gear didn't come down until touchdown. he was not injured. the san carlos airport was reopened once the plane was moved from the runway. and here's a live look over san jose tonight. temperatures are quickly dropping. meteorologist rob is keeping an eye on things for us. >> and speaking of san jose right now, 41 degrees within the hour, parts of the bay area will already be in the 30s as we're watching a few freeze warnings. the details in the forecast coming up. >> brrr. hills, stars from film and tv will walk the red carpet for the 70th annual "golden globe awards." the event will run about three hours. after all the hardware is handed out, it will be time to party. ted chen from our sister station in los angeles has a look for us. >> reporter: one party will be a copacabana, another environmental chic, another will have a chocolate room. the golden globe post parties are known for elegance and extravagance, and this year they'll also be environmentally friendly at the party on the rooftop of the beverly hilton. there will be panels made of wood, energy efficient lighting and wood floors. here's what it will hook like wh look like when it's done. the theme is to bring the outdoors in. >> we are trying to be at the forefront of showing you can have fancy and wonderful and black-tie-worthy events that are environmentally forward thinking and take into account leaving as

hopefully tomorrow you can experience "the golden globes" in a whole new way. download the zeebox app. again, as you can see, it's z-e-ebox in the apps store. to the cold snap as temperatures continue to drop, the state's citrus growers are growing more concerned. in the central valley, wind machines are being used to raise temperatures above the 32-degree mark. some farmers also coat the fruit with water that turns to ice, and that acts as a shield actually protecting the fruit inside from the cold. moderate temperatures this year have allowed the crop to develop a high sugar content which also provides some protection against frost damage. most of the oranges and virtually all of the lemons sold in the united states come from california. now we'll check in with rob to find out how cold it's going to get tonight and when we'll see a warm-up. what's going on, rob? >> temperatures dipping into the mid to upper 20s tonight. in the bay area, some of our inland valleys especially to the east bay and areas south of san jose stand a chance of getting

into the upper 20s tomorrow morning. right now mid-40s but cooling quickly. 30s showing up as early as the next hour. right now the dew point temperature, and this is an interesting number here, these are the temperatures the air will try to cool down towards by sunrise. if you have light winds and clear skies. and usually around the bay area, our dew point temperatures in the 40s and 50s and we get the fog. we've got really dry air out there tonight. so those dew point temperatures instead are in the 20s. that is sort of the bottom for how cold things can get towards tomorrow morning. a little bit of a breeze out there right now, and we do have clouds dropping over the bay area. both of those at least short term will limit the cooling. then after midnight as the skies clear and the winds back off, that's the reason why we've got freeze warnings up and a frost advisory through 8:00 tomorrow morning and then more winter cold sunshine for the afternoon and there's a chance monday morning maybe slightly colder than the temperatures we see tonight. we do have a cold system dropping in from the north. it is moisture starved, dropping inland over land, but it's

reinforcing the pattern of very cold canadian air conditioning dropping down settling all the way into southern california. as this jet stream dip dives south of southern california, that's going to continue to open the door for this cold, dry air which means we'll see chilly temperatures at least until the start of the workweek. hour by hour by 11:00 tonight, you can see we're at or close to freezing in the north and east bay valleys. and by tomorrow morning, mid to upper 20s possible out towards solano county, east bay locations through the tri-valley and also down for areas south of san jose and some low 30s around the north bay. and you can see we'll have clouds passing by for the next two hours. and throughout the day tomorrow, sunshine. so with that very cold start to the morning, even with the mainly clear skies, it's going to be tough to warm up. we'll see highs mostly in the upper 40s do low 50s. around san jose, temperatures close to 30 by the morning, upper 40s closer to morgan hill. east bay, 50s around pleasanton. not a bad day after the chilly morning.

close to 50 in san francisco. 51 in santa rosa and 49 degrees around vallejo. so two mornings we're at freezing conditions will be a bit of an issue certainly for inland valleys. monday look out for patchy ice on some of those roads. tuesday starting to see changes. high pressure is going to build more directly over california, shut down some of that cool air that's been spilling in from the north and what it should mean as our daytime highs start to come up and our morning temperatures should moderate some towards the middle part of the week. the other thing about that seven-day forecast, look how dry it is. this is typically the wettest time of year. instead we've got this cold canadian air spilling down. it will stay dry very likely into next weekend. >> at some point we could use a little more rain and snow. still ahead, lance armstrong has plans to sit down with the queen of talk. and the rumors are already flying about what he might reveal.

lance armstrong will reportedly admit to doping in a television interview next week. "usa today" reports armstrong is expected to come clean about his past drug use when interviewed on monday. the interview is scheduled to air thursday on own. armstrong has strongly denied doping charges in the past. he was stripped of his seven tour de france titles a month ago after the u.s. anti-doping agency released a detailed report. armstrong's representatives are not commenting on the reports about the oprah show. and president barack obama spent part of his morning undergoing a fitness test. this video shows the president leaving the white house dressed in casual clothes on his way to the pentagon's health clinic. the white house says this is part of a routine medical exam set up by his doctor. president obama is 51 years old, and his last physical was two years ago when he was said to be in excellent health and tobacco free. the white house says the results of today's exam will be released before the end of the month. and right now we are going to check in with brody brazil of
